It isn't just the incredible immersion that the storyline offers, or the quality of the graphics, or the brilliance of the music, or the unparalleled characterisation - it is the complete experience of playing it. This is quite simply the greatest game ever made for the Amiga (and most other platforms). The first game concludes with the love scene between Guybrush and his beloved governor Marley, yet the mystery of the Monkey Island was never solved. Too bad Ron Gilbert's Monkey Island started loosing its charm in the fourth game Escape from Monkey Island. It was among the games that really placed the adventure genre above the rest of the gaming experiences. The Secret of Monkey Island can easily be considered a milestone in the gaming history. The combat system where you need to think of insults and appropriate responses to them instead of having an action system is legendary. The humour of the series is extraordinary. The characters we get to know in this part will reappear all thorough the series in the most unexpected places. It is a point 'n click adventure at its finest. The game uses the SCUMM system originally developed for Maniac Mansion (also by LucasArts). There have been four parts made so far and the story could still continue. This game is the first in the very successful LucasArts series. Needless to say the story has a happy ending, but only if you're skilful enough. ![]()
